CtrlArt Studio

CtrlArt Studio, located in Ljubljana, Slovenia, has a rich history that dates back to its founding in February 2006 by Nadav Sagir. Initially established as a small freelance outfit, the studio quickly evolved, and by 2010, it became a limited liability company. In its early days, CtrlArt Studio specialized in 3D visualizations and TV commercials, making a name for itself in the creative industry.

A significant turning point for the studio came in 2010 when it embarked on a cultural heritage 3D reconstruction project of the Roman city of Emona, and a reconstruction of the habsburg monarchy for the city museum of ljubljana. These projects marked a shift in focus towards cultural heritage and digitalization, establishing the studio’s niche in this domain. The team’s expertise grew and by late 2013 Ctrlart began exploring advanced technologies, with a particular emphasis on augmented reality (AR). They developed their own software and AR solutions, leveraging their extensive experience in cultural heritage production.

Over the years, Ctrlart Studio expanded its portfolio and began producing its own projects. One notable production is the TravelAR Slovenia platform (travelarslovenia.com), an augmented and virtual reality cultural heritage and history platform dedicated to showcasing Slovenia’s rich past.

In 2019, the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology recognized the potential of digital technologies and provided financial support for the Digital Innovation of Cultural Heritage project through a public tender. Ctrlart studio successfully won the tender with its innovative proposal, resulting in TravelAr Slovenia – Ptuj, a unique experience and exploration of the city of Ptuj.

Another major project was Cardotour (cardotour.com), and its supporting platform WeRpix, an augmented reality tour in Jerusalem, which exemplified their innovative approach to cultural tourism.

Beyond cultural heritage, Ctrlart Studio has produced numerous projects for various industries, providing creative and technological solutions to a diverse clientele. Today, the studio is at the forefront of pioneering new interactions in XR technologies. It has been recognized as a partner in a European Commission project as XR professionals as well as the studio contributions in education, professional talks and International conferences. Ctrlart continues to push the boundaries of digitalization across multiple fields. Their work exemplifies the fusion of technology and culture, creating immersive experiences that bring history to life.

Technology:

CtrlArt studio evolved through the years from a 3D production house to a creative content studio, blending 3D and other types of digital content with new technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR) as well as Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR) and app development. We have over a decade of experience in making creative and sustainable 3D and developing novel technology solutions for a wide range of fields, varying from commercial e.g. advertising and industry to non-commercial e.g. cultural heritage and education. Besides creating 3D and technology-driven solutions, we also focused on the presentation of these solutions within designated environments leading to extensive experience in the development, design and realization of interactive exhibitions. Our interactive exhibition designs were developed for museums, within the confines of the museum premises as well as at in-situ cultural heritage sites. Besides interactive exhibition designs for non-commercial institutions we also created them for (b2b/b2c) fairs and events where companies, operating in the fields of industry, presented themselves in a unique way utilizing our novel technology solutions. We take pride in the fact that CtrlArt has developed Augmented Reality experiences and tinkered with Augmented Reality technology since 2013. By being on the forefront of the development of AR we gained valuable insights and experience, which enabled us to develop an optimized pipeline for the creation of AR content, and provided us with the know-how to create AR-driven interactive narratives and intuitive user experiences. Some of our feats include the development of the first multiplayer Augmented Reality game in Central Europe (b2c for a renowned bank), development of our own proprietary dynamic AR lighting and shader software, as well as the creation of our own cv (computer vision) library, and the first full AR (cultural heritage) app for the Epson BT-350 wearable device, which has been showcased at Integrated Systems Europe 2018 (ISE) fair in Amsterdam.
