On November 21st, the University of Salzburg hosted an inspiring session on the future of language education, welcoming Prof. Dr. Frauke Matz from the University of Münster to share groundbreaking insights from the PAX project.
Master’s students were introduced to the transformative potential of immersive learning environments, exploring how extended reality (XR) technologies are reshaping pedagogical approaches in language teaching. The highlight of the session was the hands-on workshop with the PAX compass—an innovative evaluation tool designed to help educators navigate and assess XR technologies for language learning contexts.
Prof. Matz presented findings from Work Packages 2 and 3 of the PAX initiative, demonstrating practical applications and encouraging critical reflection on how these emerging technologies can be thoughtfully integrated into teacher education.
The interactive nature of the session allowed students to directly engage with cutting-edge pedagogical tools, preparing them to become forward-thinking educators in an increasingly digital learning landscape.
Our sincere gratitude goes to Prof. Matz for sharing her expertise and passion for innovative language education, and to Julia Weißenböck for organizing this valuable learning opportunity.
