How can immersive technologies be sustainably anchored in school and vocational education — moving from pilot projects to an educational standard? This question guided the workshop “VR in vocational education — practical insights and exchange for trainers and teachers”, hosted by the Hans-Böckler-Berufskolleg Münster as part of the PAX project.

Around 35 participants from companies, educational institutions, and organisations came together to explore current developments and practical applications of Virtual Reality (VR) and Extended Reality (XR) in vocational education and training. The programme combined hands-on demonstrations — participants could try out a range of VR applications themselves — with expert talks and direct exchange.

In the Impulse Hub, Marius Ritter (University of Münster) presented the PAX perspective on connecting education and XR design, while Prof. Dr. Marc Krüger (IBL, FH Münster) highlighted the scientific case for VR in vocational training. They were joined by industry and public-sector partners, including World of VR (Cologne), VIL Tech GmbH, Medienberatung NRW, and VR-Expert, who covered the path from theory to practice, experiences from school infrastructure projects in North Rhine-Westphalia, and hardware requirements for VR in education.

The mix of impulse talks, live demonstrations, and personal conversations was very well received. Both organisers and participants highlighted the strong interest, the quality of the exchange between educators, companies, and technology providers — and the clear potential immersive technologies hold for vocational education.

For the partners involved, the workshop underlined what PAX is about: creating a safe space to jointly test immersive technologies, exchange experiences, and learn from one another — because innovation only takes root in education when different perspectives come together and turn trust into action.
